VISITING COMANCHE COUNTY OKLAHOMA

Visitors come to Comanche County Oklahoma by the hundreds of thousands every year.

Why? LOL 🙂 Good question! Let me give you some insights!

There are FIVE main reasons that people visit Comanche County Oklahoma and the Lawton – Fort Sill Region.

First, Comanche County is the home of Fort Sill Army Base.

Fort Sill Army Base was established in 1869 and remains one of the few bases from that Era that have remained in operation over the past 150+ years. In addition to being a Historical Landmark, Ft. Sill is also one of only four bases where recruits go for Basic Training.

So, the #1 reason most people visit Comanche County Oklahoma and the town of Lawton is Fort Sill.

Most travelers are here because they have a family member graduating from Army Basic Combat Training (BCT) or Army Advanced Individual Training (AIT) or one of the many other career training courses offered at Fort Sill.  Both Army and Marine active duty members attend various training at Fort Sill and it is not uncommon to see uniforms from a multitude of foreign allies who send their people for training at Ft. Sill also. In addition to graduations, family members may visit Ft. Sill to celebrate engagements, weddings, and births.

Because the Lawton – Ft. Sill region has a large population of military retirees, common visits also include military funerals and interment in the Fort Sill National Cemetery located just north of base.
